Vets Day - A Day of fishing in Quincy Bay for our disabled veterans was created by Club member Helge “Harry” Johnson in 1958. On the first Disabled Veterans Day Harvey’s played host to 14 Veterans from the Chelsea MA Veterans Hospital. The event took place on Harvey’s Wharf until the Wharf was destroyed in the blizzard of 1978. The event was moved around and settled to Quincy Yacht Club in 1981. Where it continues to be held today.   The Disabled Veterans Day Fishing trip is made possible by raising money through individual donations and selling fish donation cards at local establishments and holding an annual fundraiser. The event is an all-volunteer event.

For some Disabled Veterans this is the only day they get to get out of the hospital.

Today Harvey’s Saltwater Club provides a day of fishing and a luncheon reception for over 200 Disabled veterans from several area hospitals. Quincy Yacht Club hosts the event. Over 20 fishing and lobster boats are donated by Gracious Captains & Massachusetts Lobsterman Association. 100 local volunteers give freely of their time to make this day special for our Disabled Veterans.
